Yoga Mat: Know The Different Kinds
To someone who has never had any experience in doing certain special kinds of exercises, yoga will hold a lot of attraction because of the promise that yoga holds in helping to relax and stimulate the mind and body. One of the items that are needed to perform yoga in the proper manner is the yoga mat, and even if it happens to be a cheap one; you would be ill advised to do yoga without such an accessory. The fact of the matter is that you will have a lot of choice and whether you choose to buy an inexpensive one or one that is eco-friendly is entirely a matter of choice.
Before you spend your money on buying a yoga mat, if you do some research on them and also read a yoga mat review or two, you would become better informed about how the mat is constructed and what features are worth having.
Plastic Mats
One of the options open to you when buying this accessory is to opt for a yoga mat that is made from plastic and though this is as cheap as it gets, you need to exercise caution before selecting this form of mat because though it may work for a short period of time, in the long run it could hamper rather than help you with your yoga since it won’t provide the kind of cushioning required to do yoga over extended periods of time.
Another downside to using a plastic yoga mat is the use of certain chemicals that has gone into the making of such mats which can damage your health as in the case of rats too, there may been instances of kidney and lung damage and so, what it could do for your health is left for you to imagine.
A better option as far as a decent yoga mat is concerned is to use one that is made from jute or coir because these are good for the environment. However, as with all good things, this kind of material for your yoga mat too has a downside in that it absorbs sweat and thus will start to give off a bad smell like that of a body that has not been bathed for quite some time.
If you are conscious about your environment, then you would want to try using yoga mat made from rubber as such mats are robust and not at all expensive and they are eco-friendly as well.
Finally, you could choose Pilates mats for your yoga though you need to be aware that such mats are thicker and though they can save your hips and knees and they will also provide a reasonable amount of cushioning for an old injury, if they have a slippery surface, they would not be suitable for doing yoga.
