There are so many wonderful activities to do that it is difficult to find the time to do all of them. When I was in college I did a great deal of camping with friends. It was a cheap way to get out of town for the weekend. My brother let me use his tent. I asked for a sleeping bag and other camping equipment for Christmas and birthday gifts. My girlfriend did the same. By the time we were out of college we had accumulated a nice amount of gear. We each had two weeks off between college graduation and starting our new jobs. We decided that we would go on a big adventure. My friend had never been to Colorado and has always wanted to see the mountains. We decided to drive through the entire state and camp at different sites each night.
The tent my brother lent me was getting quite old. We had been water proofing it annually, but there were times when it still leaked. I splurged and bought a new tent. It was larger than my brothers so we would have more room to move around. The day I bought it I had my friend come over to learn how to set it up. Once we had it up we used water proofing on all of the seams. When the water proofing was dry we repacked the tent into the carrying case it came with. My friend had a more reliable car than I did so we decided to take it. It had a hatchback so we were able to get the camping gear and our personal belongings in. Our plan was to eat cereal bars and fruit for breakfast and to eat a large meal in the late afternoon prior to setting up camp for the night. This way we could take advantage of early bird specials so that our costs would stay down. Our parents were concerned about our adventure, but we assured them we would be safe. My brother gave me a large bottle of water proofing as a bon voyage present. He knows that there is nothing worse than a leaking tent. We set off on the first leg of our thirty two hundred mile round trip.
We had a wonderful time. We were glad that we had the water proofing along because we went through all kinds of weather. One day we woke up to the ground and the tent covered in snow. By the afternoon of that same day we were sitting by a pool in eighty five degrees. When you cover many miles in a day and have the effect of the mountains it is amazing the different weather patterns you experience. My friend and I still recount memories of that fun trip.
