My family and I enjoy going off road 4 wheeling every month or so. We drive a Jeep Wrangler with several added options. The vehicle is equipped with 38 inch tires, a winch for pulling our Jeep out of trouble spots as well as front and rear Lockers to keep one wheel turning at all times.
We are pretty proud of our off road vehicle but we did find something else that really caught our eye. One a recent trial ride, a group member brought his brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. This off road vehicle was brand new and still had the new car smell to it. The Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo was what we refer to as “stock”. This means that the vehicle basically has no off road options on it. The tires were from the manufacturer. There was no locker in the front or rear to keep traction. We constantly asked the driver if her was going to get his precious Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo dirty or worse yet, scratched.
The driver was a good sport and laughed along with us. The trails we were riding that day went from small slopes with some mud, to tight pathways through trees and brush and of course, the towering hills with rocks and slippery terrain. We tackled the trails with our usual enthusiasm.
We were asked to ride behind the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and another vehicle that had tow straps and a winch was designated to ride in front of the pretty little Cherokee Laredo. The club members just assumed that the off road vehicle straight from the dealer was going to get stuck and need one of us was going to have to pull him out.
Amazingly, it went up hills that others off road vehicles did not quit make. He was able to fit through narrow trails with no real scratches. His tires held their tread. We went through several soupy mud bogs and he glided through them.
I was very surprised by the performance of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. The length and width did not hamper its maneuvering capabilities. The tires and shocks held up very well. I was so impressed with the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, that I bought one for myself. Now I am able to take the same vehicle I trail ride in and use it as a camper. I have a lot of room for my gear and storage. It’s an impressive off road vehicle.
