I have been playing acoustic guitar for many years now, but I only just purchased my first acoustic electric guitar. You see, if you are only playing for fun you do not need acoustic electric guitars. Basically, an electric acoustic guitar is just like a normal acoustic, except for one very important difference: it has a built-in pickup. This means that you do not add an extra pick up to it to amplify it. You simply plug it in, and you're good to go.
When I was just playing by myself, I had no need for an acoustic electric guitar. You see, unless you're playing with a band you probably have no need to amplify. Normal acoustic guitars produced plenty of volume by themselves. They do not need acoustic electric guitar amplification. When you are playing with other people, however, and acoustic electric guitar has many advantages over a normal acoustic with a pickup added. First of all, the pickup is always with you. You do not have to haul it around, and you do not have to worry about it falling out. Also, acoustic electric guitars tend to have very high quality pickups, and to the pickups are well mounted. If you are not using an acoustic electric guitar, it can be hard to get the pickups situated right to get the perfect sound. My favorite thing about my new acoustic electric guitar, however, is the built-in controls that come with it. When you are playing a normal acoustic guitar and you amplify it, you will have no way to really control the volume level except to adjust to the amp. With an acoustic electric guitar, however, you have built in volume controls right in the guitar body. I can't explain how great of an advantage this is. If you are playing and your guitar level is not quite right, you don't have to go over to the amplifier and mess around with it. You can simply fine tune in on the side of the guitar. This makes a big difference if you are playing a show! The acoustic electric guitar represents a new era in my playing. I have become confident enough, after several years, to play with other people. I have even been playing a few shows, and my acoustic electric guitar seems to work extremely well. Although it is hard to play in front of people, I am starting to get used to it. After all, I love music!
