You should use this mode of transportation if you plan to visit Old Downtown Las Vegas, The Hard Rock Cafe, Red Rocks, Green Valley Ranch, The Palms, The Rio, or any outlying areas off the strip.

Walking

Bring your most comfortable walking shoes with you. Any time of the year, day or night, if you don't mind the wind, walking is a great way to get around.

Las Vegas Monorail

This is the best thing that has happened for the tourists visiting Las Vegas in the last twenty years. The station is attached to the rear or eastern side of the MGM Grand Hotel. It runs north, behind all the casinos on the east side of the strip, all the way to the Sahara. Clean, fast, secure, informative, and economical, this system rates as one of the best in the world.

Tropicana

This is the oldest remaining hotel-casino in Las Vegas. It sits right across the street to the south of the MGM Grand Hotel. Enter through the upper level after you have crossed over the pedestrian sky bridge and you will get a free pull on a giant slot machine. Below in the middle of the casino floor there is usually a free show going on, along with an Old Las Vegas museum.

Excalibur – Luxor – Mandalay Bay

The Excalibur is located kitty-corner to the MGM Grand Hotel and is accessible by taking the sky bridge. Boasting a medieval theme, you may have dinner with the knights of the round table at Excalibur while watching live jousting inside the sunken pit. A free monorail connects these three casinos.

Luxor

Located directly to the south and next door to the Excalibur, this hotel-casino carries an Egyptian theme and is known for its huge beam of light coming out of its pyramid shaped structure.

Mandalay Bay

Go deep under the waters into the shark reef exhibit or swim in the water park that is always rated number one in LasVegas. Mandalay Bay is located to the south and next door to the Luxor.

New York New York

Right across the street and to the west of the MGM Grand Hotel, you see a building that has giant skyscrapers with a roller coaster running through them. From here you could walk north towards Caesar's Palace, The Mirage, and The Bellagio, but beware, it is a very long hike. Better to go back to the MGM Grand Hotel, and take the Las Vegas Monorail instead.
