My husband and I try to go on at least one trip each year. We have visited many different places, some that we would like to go back to and others that we probably will not visit again. Several of our friends go on the same vacation each year. They like the routine of returning to the same place each year. This does not fit in with our goal to visit each of the fifty states. We do not have any method to how we are seeing the country. When we have the time to take driving trips we are able to cross off several states at a time; however many of our trips involve air travel to allow us to spend more time at the destination once we get there.

Last year we were deciding on where we wanted to go. We try to do our traveling during the time of the year that is not peak tourist season. A friend of ours told us that we should visit Charleston South Carolina. They had been there on a business trip and said that they enjoyed the city very much. We had never been to Charleston South Carolina or any other city in the state so it qualified as a destination. We learned that it is on the ocean so we knew that we wanted to go before the school year was over. We do not care if we swim in the ocean; however we love to walk on the beaches. We decided to fly Raleigh North Carolina and then rent a car and take a driving trip to Charleston South Carolina. This would allow us to see two states during the same trip.

We were surprised at the number of farm fields that we drove past during our trip. The main crops were cotton as well as peanuts. The weather was warm and the skies were a beautiful blue. We arrived in Charleston South Carolina just in time to see the sun setting on the ocean. We immediately discovered why our friend suggested we come. There were many activities and museums to take in. It is truly a wonderful city to visit. There are many cafes on the waterfront that you can enjoy. The wonderful history of the area is celebrated amongst the modern conveniences of this modern city. We definitely placed this on our list as a place that we will return to. There are several additional east coast and southern states we want to visit. South Carolina seems to have a blending of the two. You have the feeling of the southern hospitality along with the hustle of the eastern seaboard.
