Imagine this; your kid is on a fieldtrip, and you want to contact your child’s teacher and you don’t have his or her number. What do you do? Reach for the nearest cell phone directory of course.

Of course, a cellular phone has its own directory; a phone book in which we store our contacts in. But the phone book has its limitations when it comes to capacity. And besides you may not exactly have everyone’s number in your contacts list; like a neighbor perhaps.

Then there’s the other problem of; what if you lost your phone? How will you get all those lost contacts back? It’s easy when you just get a new phone because you simply transfer your contacts from one phone to the other. But loosing a phone is a different manner. Loosing a phone is tantamount to loosing that little black book or worst yet your planner; where everything is listed and the ability to contact everyone you know.
If there is a cell phone directory however, then you can easily get those contacts back.

Unfortunately there are perils to having a public cell phone directory. Getting people to share their personal cell hone numbers is difficult enough as it is. Much less making they agree to have their numbers published in a cell phone directory.

A cell phone directory can expose a person to unwanted calls, and text messages, prank callers and telemarketers; having a public cell phone directory posse’s unwanted disturbance for people who wants peace and quiet or privacy when it comes to their mobile phone numbers.

Actually there are already a number of cell phone directories on the internet. It’s just that these sites are fairly new and nobody is logging on to them. And not many people are willing to share their cell phone numbers.

The issue though is not really a matter of which is better. The issue is whether people will want to have their cell phone numbers in a cell phone directory which will be publicly available to any number and any kind of people. After all, there is a reason why some people even have their telephone numbers unlisted.

This again is a matter of choice. We can have a cell phone directory, but much like the telephone directory; its contents could be businesses, restaurants, and people who will allow their cell phone numbers to be publicly accessible.
