Tips on Choosing Restaurant Kitchen Equipment - Ovens

If you have decided to enter the restaurant business or it’s time to purchase new equipment there are numerous factors you need to consider when purchasing expensive items such as an oven. Most restaurant owners know the important of getting good value for the money they spend on restaurant kitchen equipment.

The oven is typically the main component of most restaurant kitchens. The type of food you serve will be a large factor in determining the type of oven you select. The four basic types of ovens used in restaurant kitchens include conveyor ovens, convection ovens, pizza ovens and ovens which are known as cook and hold ovens.

Restaurant Kitchen Equipment – Convection Ovens

Convection ovens are provided with a fan that circulates the air inside the oven. The circulating air allows the food to cook faster and the convection ovens are known for cooking the food in a more uniformed manner. The typical convection oven is provided with a one year warranty. The typical single deck type of convection oven will cost anywhere between three thousand and five thousand dollars while a double deck style oven might cost twice as much as a single deck oven. A half sized convection oven will cost you about two thousand dollars.

Restaurant Kitchen Equipment – Conveyor Ovens

Conveyor ovens can be used to cook a variety of foods including sandwiches, meats, pizza as well as breads. An advantage of the conveyor oven is the ability to set the temperature and the speed of the conveyor and then all you have to do is place the food in one end of the oven and remove it once it exits the tunnel. When shopping for a conveyor oven check to see if it might be difficult to clean due to the enclosed design and the numerous parts that have to be cleaned.

Some conveyor ovens are designed to be placed on counter tops and some are made to be freestanding units. A small counter top model can cost you between four thousand and ten thousand dollars. The freestanding models typically cost thirty to sixty-five thousand dollars while some units are even more expensive.

Restaurant Kitchen Equipment – Cook and Hold Ovens

The cook and hold ovens are designed to cook the food and allow you to leave the food in the oven in order to stay warm without the food loosing its moisture and becoming dry for about twenty–four hours. The ovens can be programmed in order to stop the cooking and change the oven to a hold mode when the cooking process has been completed. The hold mode can be activated when a specific temperature has occurred in the meats or if a particular cooking cycle has been achieved.

Restaurant Kitchen Equipment – Pizza Ovens

Regarding pizza ovens, a typical freestanding pizza oven usually costs between five thousand to twelve thousand dollars. For a countertop variety of the pizza deck oven you can expect to pay about two thousand dollars. When looking for expensive restaurant kitchen equipment such as ovens make sure you purchase a type that is appropriate for the type of food you are serving.
