Magazine Rack - article about Magazine Rack

We have an on going battle in our house. What to do with old magazines. This battle started after we first got married. At first it seemed like we had an easy solution, we purchased a magazine rack. This was a good solution for a while because it kept the magazines off of other surfaces and placed them in a central location. But then the rack began to overflow.

We decided we needed to find some way to deal with the magazine issue. In fact you could not even see the magazine rack because it was so full. I said that I would do my part by cutting out the cooking and gardening articles that I wanted to save and getting rid of the rest of the magazine. I found that it was most efficient to do this prior to the magazines ever getting into the rack. For the past issues of the hunting and fishing magazines I purchased two heavy cardboard boxes that are made to slide under the bed. I had my husband develop a system for storing them so that he could access what he needed. By doing this the magazine rack only had three magazines in it.

With the number of magazines we receive the rack does fill up quickly, so about every 4 months we go through what we have. It is amazing that what seems so important to keep when the magazine is new does not seem all that important 4 months later. Over the years I have decided that I have more recipes than I could ever possibly make and more gardening tips than I will ever be able to use. I still enjoy reading the articles and looking at my magazines, but I no longer clutter the magazine rack with them once I am done. I recycle them by donating them to the local hospital.

We have also started a second magazine rack in our guest bedroom. I have noticed through the years that when we have company they often take a magazine into the bedroom to read before falling asleep. We now keep a variety of our latest magazines in that rack for our guests to enjoy.
