What to Expect From Hypnotherapy Training

When looking for hypnotherapy training, select a training program that has been certified by the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners. You should also try to find a training program that offers advance courses so you can upgrade your certifications.

What To Expect During Hypnotherapy Training

Your hypnotherapy training should cover a variety of subjects. Some of the topics you might study include Foundations in Hypnotherapy, Hypnotherapy 101, Emotional and Physical Suggestibility, and Introduction to Therapeutic Imagery

You will take a variety of hypnotherapy assessment examinations that enable you to organize your linguistics to match the subject's suggestibility, rendering virtually every subject hypnotizable. You will learn how to trigger the hypnotic response; how to word hypnotic suggestions; how to do group hypnosis; and how to teach self hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy Training: Classroom or Online

Hypnotherapy training is available in classroom settings and online. Some online courses require that you live more than 50 miles from the institution's classroom setting before you can enroll online.

A representative sample of an online course consists of six two-hour streaming video lessons with a printed course chapter. The student completes the streaming video, takes a short quiz and submits the quiz by email. As soon as the student passes one quiz, he or she receives a link to the video stream of the next lesson in order.

After the student completes all six lessons, he or she completes a written exam and participates in an oral discussion with an instructor by telephone. All six hypnotherapy training lessons must be completed within a brief 28-day period.

Therapeutic Imagery Training

Hypnotherapy training may include therapeutic imagery courses, where students learn how to help subjects use goal-oriented imagery to focus on their objectives. Students learn all about the different types of imagery and how to apply them: transformational imagery, mythic imagery, guided and semi-guided imagery, and freestyle imagery. Students may decide to work toward their Imagery Master Certification as part of their hypnotherapy training.

NLP Training

Hypnotherapy training students may also decide to pursue their NLP certification. This uses linguistics to motivate and influence others and building instant rapport, negotiating conflict, and developing leadership skills.
