Until recently, I was not a very big fan of backyard fences. I thought that backyard fencing was ugly, unnecessary, and created the wrong idea. I understood that people with pets – particularly dogs – needed both back and front yard fences, but I felt that if you didn't fit into this category there was no good reason to put up a fence. After all, most backyard fences are ugly. It only serves to separate you from your neighbors, break up the space, and create an ugly barrier that blocks your view of the surrounding community.
Unfortunately, I have been driven by circumstances beyond my control to put up a backyard fence. You see, the neighborhood is changing. It is happening slowly, but I can see it. Maybe the country as a whole is changing – I don't know. All I know is that the kids these days do not act in the same way that we acted when we were kids. They don't have respect for other people and for other people's property. It seems like hardly a weekend goes by when there aren't kids sneaking into our backyard swimming pool. I wouldn't mind so much, except they get drunk and sometimes make a lot of noise. I know that it is only a matter of time before some terrible accident happens, and I don't want to be the one responsible for it. That is why have been looking into backyard fences. The problem is that the type of backyard fence that I want doesn't exist. I was a kid once, and I understand how easy it is to jump some backyard fences. Chain-link fences, unless they are very high, can be jumped. I tried putting up wooden backyard fences, but it did no good. The kids simply knocked a hole in it – something I never would have considered doing as a child. I didn't want to get backyard fences with barbed wire – that looked ugly and paranoid. Wrought iron fences, however, didn't seem to solve things quite right. You can put them up as backyard fences, of course, but they cost a fortune. They are so hard to work with that you need to get a fence contractor instead of doing it yourself. I am a big fan of do it yourself landscaping, and I want to avoid hiring a contractor if I can. The police won't help me, so I can't figure out what to do.
