My First Audition Casting Call

When I tried out for my first audition casting call, I thought I would play it safe. I tried out for a part that I was pretty sure I would not get. They were looking for someone a little bit younger than me, and with different physical attributes. Basically, I was too tall and a bit too chubby for the role. Nonetheless, I thought it would be a great way for me to test my acting skills out. I had been taking actors workshops, reading plays, studying classic movies, and in general doing everything I could to prepare myself to be a great actor. This audition casting call, I figured, would be sort of a cold run for the real one.

When I got there, however, my nerves took over . Although I knew that I wasn't trying out for a role that I particularly wanted or had a chance of getting, I still felt like scared that the audition casting call would not go well. I was practically shaking in my shoes! Nonetheless, I managed to pull it together. This is a skill that all actors must have. Writers can be neurotic and brooding, and directors can be grouchy and demanding, but actors have to be able to put out a polished image of themselves no matter how they're feeling inside.

To be honest, the audition casting call was sort of a blur for me. I really can't remember what I did there, other than that I felt very nervous and was worried that I would bomb. Apparently I didn't. I didn't get the role, but I did interest the director. He kept my number and, a few months later, gave me a call. There was another actors casting call, and he had a part in mind that he thought I would fit perfectly. Although it wasn't all that glamorous, it was still a great first role. I'm not sure at all if I will ever make it as a professional actor, but I'm glad to be finally making some progress in that direction.
