Strobe Lights - article about Strobe Lights

I have been spinning records for about 10 years ago, so I have had plenty of time to play with various kinds of DJ lighting. Spinning lights, laser displays, disco balls – they are all familiar to me. I have even used string lights sometimes to create a simple, relaxed ambiance if I am playing downbeat stuff in a chill room. By far the most important component, however, is the strobe light. Without strobe lights, you just can't have a dance party.

Of course, strobe lights are not just useful for dance clubs. You may not have had a chance to think about it, but flashing lights serve all kinds of purposes. Cops don't have the flashing lights just to be annoying – they're meant to intimidate you and get your attention. Even a bright searchlight can be ignored after a while, but flashing lights with intense, ever-changing patterns are extremely difficult to ignore. Strobe lights are also useful for home alarms, car security systems, and a variety of other purposes. Sometimes, a simple flashing light is enough to scare off an otherwise very determined intruder.

Still, my favorite use of strobe lights is in the club. I love to go out dancing, having a good time and hanging out with my friends. Having the right lighting effects really helps me create the perfect atmosphere for a party anytime. Whether it is in a big club or a friend's basement, the addition of a few simple DJ supplies can get everyone to loosen up and have a good time. It is really amazing how responsive the brain is to things like that. It is almost as if we were all biologically programmed to party!
