The Importance of Personality Compatibility in a Marriage

When a lot of young couples fall in love and begin to think about getting married, one thing they really fail to do is examine their relationship in detail. A lot of people who are not compatible can be in love but that does mean that their marriage would last. And that is something that not a lot of younger people think about when they begin their plans to marry as they have the fairy tale thought process that all you need is love and everything else will fall into place. Sadly though, that is generally not the way things work because if the personality compatibility in marriage is not there, it can destroy a lot of things that you thought you had under control, including your love for one another.

For some people who are involved in a church, there are pre-marriage courses that they must go through and pass in order to be married in the church. While a lot of people feel that these courses are a waste of time or old-fashioned, a lot of the course focuses on each individual's understanding of what a marriage is really about and on personality compatibility in marriage. However, today young couples are allowed to bypass these courses or they are simply not faced with them because they are not involved with a church. This leaves little room for help and guidance, as a lot of couples do not want the advice that their parents are offering.

As Time Moves On

Now, as with anything in life, there is a twist to this as nothing is ever simple. Even if a couple starts out on the right path and they have that perfect personality compatibility in marriage, things change. Not only do things change but people change as well and sometimes the change is a wonderful thing and other times it is anything but ideal. Who you are now is not who you will be in ten, twenty, or thirty years from now and that holds true for your partner as well. The problem is whether or not your personalities will continue to be compatible in the future after you both have gone through a lot of inner changes.

Your personality compatibility in marriage can go from perfect, to not so great, to wonderful again during the course of a few years. A lot of what causes it is personal changes within an individual and outside stresses that could be putting strain on your relationship. If there are a lot of problems going on such as family issues or financial troubles, the personality compatibility in marriage can suffer greatly. The goal is to understand that this is bound to happen throughout the course of the relationship but it is always best to at least start out on the right path. And if you work together and have patience, you may make it through the rough times and be right back to having a great relationship.
