I have lived in this country for twenty years, and been a citizen for five. Although I love it here, it was no picnic to make it. First of all, succeeding economically was very difficult. Becoming a citizen of the United States was the only way to have full legal rights. Particularly in a post-September 11th world, it is importance to have all of the legal protection that you can in America. Unfortunately, that involved answering the US citizenship questions.

Eventually, I sought. There are many private services that claim that they will help you study for the US citizenship questions. They have sample tests available, study guides, and other resources for potential citizens. Although they do not guarantee that any US citizenship question on their tests is a real one, nonetheless, they seemed like likely candidates. I studied pages and pages of potential US citizenship questions. Every US citizen question I read set me on a whole new tangent. I would study revolutionary history, local and federal government, the constitutional amendments – you name it and I would study it.

By the time I was finished studying US citizenship questions, I was probably more educated than your average American high school graduate. I knew basically everything about American history. As it turns out, the US citizenship questions that I got from the sample tests were worthless. Not a single one of them made it to the US citizenship test. In the end, however, it didn't really matter. They got me studying, and when I studied enough, I was ready to pass the test.
