Buy Stock

I see it in my inbox everyday, though I have never asked to have it sent to me. It’s the standard junk mail, but this particular email is telling me to buy stock and to buy it now. I have pondered the origin of these emails and I wonder if this is even legal. The emails sound like they come from someone who wants you to get in on a good deal, but are they really? If it were such a huge deal to buy now, why would you want to share it with the world? If it is the company trying to get someone to buy stock, isn’t that a little deceptive?

When you buy stock, you buy in the hopes that it will make you money. I hope you don’t get your stock tips from spam emails, and if you do, you might want to ask yourself why you think this would be good information. If you buy stock because someone sent you an email, you may find that you lose everything. Either everyone else is buying it, or someone wants you to think the company is good when in fact there is a reason why the stock is low and not selling.

I don’t know enough about the market to go out and buy stock on my own, and I don’t even know if I want to trust anyone else to do it. Though I guess there is already someone doing that with my husbands 401K investments, they are at least a company that has a great reputation. I don’t know about anyone else, but it is hard to hand my money over to a stranger with the hopes that they know what they are doing.

As my career grows and I make more money, I do hope to buy stock to see what I can do with it. Right now it is not a good idea, as even a small loss could really hurt us. Instead I stick with money market accounts that are guaranteed by the bank. The interest rate won’t make me rich, but my money is still growing. One day I will buy stock but I will do a lot of research and learning before I endeavor to do it. There is no point in doing it until you know what you are getting into and feel confident that you can make some good decisions. I certainly won’t buy stock recommended to me in an email from a total stranger. That you can count on.
