iPhone insurance is basically just like any other type of insurance, only it specifically covers your iPhone device. The main reason that this insurance is offered is because of the high price tag on the iPhone, which typically ranges from $499-$599 at regular retail stores.

Although the iPhone has actually not been introduced onto the market yet, the demand for it is already incredibly high, and imminent shortages are basically already assured as many buyers are already flocking to eBay just to get a pre-sale iPhone order in.

The only problem with this iPhone insurance is that not many companies are offering to provide it. Rumors have been circulating for quite some time now that an AppleCare plan is in the works for the phone and that this iPhone insurance will be readily available with the actual launch of the product however AT&T/Cingular and other phone companies are openly admitting that they are not planning to offer iPhone insurance.

This can cause problems for existing clients of the AT&T/Cingular service, and basically means that anyone with their services who purchases the iPhone is going to be switching to another carrier. This is bad news for the company and means that they are definitely going to have to come up with at least some sort of solution in response to this.

As a conclusion, it is basically up to you and your own personal preference and opinion as to whether you think it is worth it to spend such a significant amount of money on a device that you are not going to necessarily be offered insurance for.
