The Pros and Cons of Home Schooling

While home schooling may be positive in that it can move at the pace of the particular student and this may allow them to graduate earlier, there are many people that believe any random parent should not be able to teach. One of the biggest cons of home schooling is that these parents may not even have their own high school degree, and they are still permitted to teach their own children in a residential setting that has no monitoring on a public level, like public schools do. Another of the more important cons of home schooling is that the children receive very little interaction between themselves and other students. This type of environment is not always in the best interest of the parent of the child.

However, in order to respond to those cons of home schooling, we must counter balance the cons of home schooling with some of the more positive attributes of the design. Parents are given resources in order to help them as they teach, and the truth is that no one knows the students like their parents do, so they will likely be able to more accurately assess the student’s progress and capabilities. To counter another one of the cons of home schooling, there are community groups that allow home school children to gather and interact with one another during the school year.
