Have you ever stopped to consider where your children get their talents? I was reflecting on this the other day as I was working on my children’s scrapbooks. I have been to a number of scrap booking parties and have bought many supplies to create great books for each of my children; however I rarely take the time to work on them. I am too busy going to all of their events and taking photographs to actually organize them. I found the perfect opportunity to work on them a few weeks ago. My husband took our son’s camping and my daughter went to spend a weekend with my sister. I had the entire house to myself for two nights and three days. I took a day of vacation on Thursday and packed up everything for the camping trip and to make food for them to take along. I then had everyone clean their rooms that evening. When Friday afternoon came the boys packed up and left and my sister came and picked up my daughter. I had until Sunday afternoon to work on scrapbooks and relax.
I thought that if I would sort photographs on Friday I could start arranging them in the books on Saturday. My daughter has been involved in gymnastics since she was four years old. She is now fourteen, so I had ten years worth of pictures to sort through. I decided to make one separate book for the gymnastics pictures and another for more general photos. She has always liked the gymnastics balance beam the best. It is amazing to watch her perform on it. As I was looking at the photos of her on the gymnastics balance beam I started to reflect about where she would have gotten this sense of balance. Neither her father nor I were ever involved in any gymnastics. We are both active people and like to golf and exercise, but neither one of us have the grace that she has. I had one photograph that had been in a group of pictures on a film that was recently developed. My daughter had not seen the photos yet. There was one with her on the gymnastics balance beam with her arms out stretched and one leg straight behind her raised above her head. I am not an expert in gymnastics but the photo seemed to capture her in perfect form. I was pleased that I had taken one from the side and one from the front of the same pose. We had recently painted her bedroom and I thought these would make wonderful pictures for her walls. I went to an all night discount store and had the clerk in the camera department help me enlarge the photos. I then bought matting and framing and took the pictures home to put together. They looked wonderful. The rest of the weekend seemed to crawl by as I waited for her to come home and see her new art work on the walls. I finished a good deal of the scrap booking by Sunday afternoon. When my daughter walked into her room that evening she squealed in delight at the photos. I hope she keeps them for her life time.
