There are people all over the world that purchase items from United States federal government auctions and then resell those products in any number of ways. Sometimes the deals found at government auctions are so profitable that people can make a substantial living from buying items from a government auction and then reselling those items later on. Probably the best example of this is when people buy real estate from a government auction and then turn around and resell that real estate for a large profit. With many government auctions you have the option of placing your bid in person. Many of the government auctions are held live and you can see what you are buying in person before you bid. At these particular live auctions you also have the option of mailing in your bid in a sealed envelope. If your bid is higher than the highest live bid then you win the auction. It allows people that cannot make it to all the live auctions to still participate.

Probably the most popular way that the government will hold its auctions is over the Internet. There is little overhead involved, the process is much faster, and the money can be collected easier. Both the buyer and the government get what they want from an online auction and that is the instant gratification of the sale of the item. The government has a hard time holding on to anything that is not military so when they feel like they are done using something they will try to sell it on one of their online auctions. That means great deals for everyone involved.
