Abortion clinic
The controversy of abortion clinics has gone on since they first came about and will most likely continue well into the future. Whether abortion is right or wrong, everyone has their own opinions and their reasons for their opinions. The government has stepped in and made some decisions about the controversial subject and some court cases have changed history. Everyone has heard of Roe. vs. Wade. In my senior year of high school, my best friend came to me with tears in her eyes one morning. She was pregnant and her boyfriend had dumped her when she'd told him. She didn't want to tell her parents and thought she wanted an abortion. I had no clue what to do. I had never dealt with anything like this before and didn't even know how to comfort her. Before I knew it, I was accompanying her to an abortion clinic across the state line where she didn't need parental consent. She was an absolute emotional mess and I was scared to death. I had heard so many stories about abortion clinics being burned down and people protesting. I had no idea what to expect. Nonetheless, I had to be strong for her. I was not even sure how I felt about abortion, to be quite honest. I just knew that it was her body and she could do what she chose. I also planned on having a little chat with her boyfriend after all of this was over.
When we arrived and drove past the abortion clinic to find parking, it was as I'd imagined it would be. The abortion clinic wasn't in the best section of town and it didn't even look safe enough to get out of the car. A handful of protesters stood outside the abortion clinic holding signs but appeared rather quiet and peaceful. As we walked into the abortion clinic, my friend lowered her head when the signholders shook their heads at her.
The abortion clinic was nicer inside than it appeared from the outside. The nurses were nice but abrupt and to the point. They made it clear that she was there for a medical procedure and would be out as soon as possible. The atmosphere was uneasy. I had to sit in the waiting room for her, and had not a clue what was going on. After an hour, she was led out to me, very groggy. The nurse said that she'd been giving a sedative and would be woozy for a while. Then, they showed us to the door. That was it. I walked out of the abortion clinic with my arm around her to keep her steady. The protesters were silent as I put her into my car. I didn't even look back at the abortion clinic as we drove away. I had no need to, nor did I ever question my friend about what it was like. I just knew that it had been her body, and her choice.
