A pension is an accumulation of funds that can be used after a worker reaches retirement age. Once the person reaches the required age, they can stop working and start collecting these funds as their means for every day living. A pension is often based on the salary of the person before retirement. A worker who makes a large salary while working usually has a much bigger pension after retirement. Most pensions are paid in equal monthly payments throughout the retirement of each individual. A worker usually makes less in retirement than they did while they were actually working.

Some people would like to sit by a pool and read the newspapers all day long during their retirement.

Many people look forward to doing other pleasurable activities during their retirement. Some people love to play golf, but they did not get much time to play when they had to hold down a full time job. During their retirement, people can play golf several times a week if they want to take time on the links. Other people want to travel to see the world that they did not get to see while working full time. Some people fill their time during retirement by volunteering in their community or even worldwide projects. People on a pension often serve as guides in museums or work with children in schools. They make great use of their retirement time.
