Colored Landscaping Stone Adds Interest and Variety to your Yard

When you are designing your outdoor space, there are many ways that you can add color to an otherwise drab area. Flowers and plants are often the first choices that come to mind, but these options are often seasonal in nature. How do you bring variety to your landscape year round? Colored landscaping stone is a good place to begin, since you can place the stone in many different areas to serve a broad range of purposes. And with the array of colors to choose from, you can get any look you want by simply adding different types of rocks to your yard.

Colored landscaping stone comes in a broad range of sizes, textures and colors so you can rest assured that you will be able to find what you are looking for. Small, smooth pebbles can be a great choice for a walkway or a children's play area, while larger rocks may look quite beautiful bordering a lawn or garden area. Larger colored landscaping stone can be used as accents in planting areas or as borders to separate areas of your yard. You can use the stone that is already present in your yard or you can introduce new rock from a wide assortment of home improvement stores, nurseries or rock yards.

Choosing a Color
The hardest part of adding colored landscaping stone may very well be to choose the best color out of the many varieties available. There are shades of grey, pink, red and tan that will enhance your landscape and add different effects out of the hues that you choose. If you are looking to brighten a shady spot, try using a lighter colored landscaping stone like a white or tan. To cool off a particularly sunny spot, choose rocks in shades of dark red or grey. By adding solar powered lights to your rocky areas, you can add dimension and shadows to your yard all day and night.

Where to Place your Stone
Colored landscaping stone can be used just about anywhere in your yard that you don't want to place vegetation. It can also be used alongside some types of plants for an interesting contrast between the green leaves reaching up above the rocky ground below. Use colored landscaping stone as a border or to break up your planting areas into smaller beds. Larger stone can be used to create raised beds or structures of hardscape that will add beauty and dimension to your yard. Colored landscaping stone can be an important element to any outdoor design scheme.
