What The Heck Is An Arrowhead Pond?

Sorry, all of you gardening enthusiasts – there isn't any such thing as a type of pond called an arrowhead pond (yet). When anyone talks about Arrowhead Pond, they are referring to a well-known entertainment arena in Southern California. It's now officially known as the Honda Center, but many Californians still refer to it as Arrowhead Pond.
It is used often for sporting events, concerts and the home of the hockey team the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, leading it to be nicknamed "the Duckpond".

But I Want To Read About Ponds!

Okay, calm down. If you insist, we could discuss why there are no such things (yet) as arrowhead ponds. First off, there isn't a pond supply company called Arrowhead. That takes care of one reason why a pond would be called an arrowhead pond. Other reasons why things get their names is because of their shape.

You could try to build an arrowhead-shaped pond, but only if you have millions of dollars to spare. It's just not a practical shape for a pond. Granted, there are ancient arrowheads that have been discovered that are mostly round at the killing end, where normally there would be a point. However, they are usually found next to skeletons of the hunters, suggesting that this shape of arrowhead just didn't work out.

There's a good reason why ponds are mostly round shaped and not arrowhead shaped. Round ponds are easier to maintain, whether they are natural or built. If you plan to build a pond, then stick with a round design or even one that resembles an amoeba. Trying to care for an arrowhead shaped pond will drive you nuts. The ground will collapse around the point, making a round shaped instead.

History Of The Duckpond

Arrowhead Pond, or the Honda Center, is considered one of the nation's premier arenas for concerts. Only built in 1993, it is now considered one of the "must stops" for any major music tour. U2, Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen have all played at Arrowhead Pond. Because of its location, it is able to fill most of the seats for any performance.

Arrowhead Pond is 650,000 square feet big and shaped like a Pepperidge Farm Milano cookie. The amount of seating will always vary depending on the act or sporting event to be shown. Inside also includes a more intimate stage of around 7,000 seats called "The Theatre", which is also popular with some musicians like David Bowie and Tori Amos.
