Charity Ideas - article about Charity Ideas

Our parish, like so many other church congregations, is is in debt. We had a building fund drive a few years ago, asking people to pledge a certain amount of money that they would be willing to pay over a three year period of time. We raised quite a bit of money through this drive but there were some people that did not follow through with the amount of money that they pledged. We are always looking for charity ideas to bring additional funds into the church.

Our parish had an excellent choir and pianist. Part of the renovation that we had done in our church involved a new sound system. Several months ago the choir was practicing before a fund raising committee meeting. I sat in the back of the church to listen to the practice. As I was enjoying the music I had some great charity ideas. We could have the choir put on a concert that we would charge the community to attend, and we could also make a Christmas CD to sell to people to give as gifts.

Several members of the choir are on the fund raising committee. When I brought up my charity ideas they became very excited. They said that a group of the choir members has gotten together several times to sing songs other than hymns. They enjoy singing together. One of the members has a brother that is a disc jockey, and he thought he would be able to cut the CD. Two of the choir members agreed that they would be in charge of talking to the choir members to see if they would be willing to donate their time to these charity ideas.

The choir members were very excited about this and they left that if they had three months to practice they would be able to prepare enough songs to perform for an hour and twenty minutes. We thought we would charge ten dollars a ticket. The church holds five hundred people and if we could sell out two concerts we would make $10,000. The concerts were a big hit. At the end of the first one a man suggested passing a hat around to collect money to be shared by the choir members. There were twenty members to the choir and they each received around forty dollars from the goodwill offering. Most of the community members said that they would come back again for the concert and it was suggested that we make this an annual event.
