A lot of income is generated through wills and legacies. In fact, many organizations would struggle without them. Face to Face Fundraising has become a favorite method to raise money. The fundraisers have become familiar sights in the streets as they try to persuade people to sign up to giving regular amounts from their bank account each month. Payroll Giving is another source of money, whereby a charity donation is deducted from an employee's salary. The only disadvantage of this is that contact with the person is lost if they leave the company.

The bigger charities can afford to advertise and there are many TV, poster and print media campaigns that tug at the heartstrings. Smaller charities depend on more locally based campaigns. Sponsored events, such as fun runs, abseils or parachute jumps are popular. Children can get involved too in events such as sponsored walks or swims. In addition to encouraging a charity donation, it is important to raise awareness of causes.

Children's charities and those concerned with heart disease and cancer research tend to attract the most interest. It's natural that people identify with concerns that could affect their own families. Organizations involved with famine and disease in developing countries are popular too; especially those long established ones such as Oxfam or Save the Children. A charity donation to one of these charities may be for an emergency situation but a lot of fundraising goes into community projects that will eventually make the local population self sufficient.

Much help has been given in Africa to build wells and supply a clean source of water to villages. This greatly helps to eradicate water born illnesses. Money is also spent on supplying seeds, irrigation systems and basic farming tools in order for people to be able to feed themselves and their families. School buildings, school equipment and homes for teachers have also made a huge difference to people's lives. Mosquito nets have also saved many lives, in areas where malaria is rife. In an ideal world, we would have no need for charity donation but it does make a real impact where it is needed.
