Flip Flops
I wish I could wear flip flops, but alas, it is not to be. There are two reasons for this, and these reasons were never present when I was a kid. I always wore them as a child and they never bothered me. There are many days I would be trampling through the woods and would have to wear sneakers, but when I was running around my year or visiting family, I could always were the flip flops without giving it a second thought. Now though, I worry about what will happen to my feet. Last summer I got a pair of pink flip flops because I wanted something that I could slip on really fast to run outside. My daughter loves to splash around in the pool, and it’s important for me to be able to get my feet wet without having to worry about ruining my good shoes, or having to struggle to get them off ten times in one afternoon. The flip flops seemed like the perfect answer, but I found out how wrong I really was about that.
First of all, the flip flops looked horrible on my feet. Perhaps it was just that I hadn’t worn them for so long, but I hated the way they looked. I like to wear sandals, and I like the way they look, but the flip flops just didn’t look right on my feet. On top of that, I developed a blister on the inside of my big toe somewhere between my front door and my back yard. I happened fast, and I was shocked when I looked down and saw my foot was bleeding. I may have just babied my feet for too long, I’m not really sure.
My daughter has an aversion to flip flops as well, and perhaps that is my fault. I prefer to put her in sandals or in sneakers when we go outside, but that is mostly for safety reasons. We live in a great neighborhood, but there is often broken glass that I cannot see and I’m afraid she is going to step on it before I can find it. She has one pair of flip flops from this summer, but she only wore them once. I think next year I’ll just get her more sandals and skip them altogether. Maybe one day she’ll buy them on her own, but at this point it just seems to be a waste of money.
