One of his boat names was absolutely hysterical, but I have to admit it is a bit gross. He named his latest boat “The Floater.” If you don’t get it, I’m not about to explain it to you. He and my brother went through a long list of boat names before they both decided that was the name that my dad should use. I still laugh when I see it sitting outside of him garage. I think he has always parked his boats so that you can see the boat names when you drive by. He’s got a wicked sense of humor that is for sure.

If you are at a loss when thinking of boat names, just give yourself some time. Some people like to name their water craft after those they love, and others like to think up silly boat names like the ones my dad always seems to want to use. Take some time to think about it if you can’t seem to think of anything. You might even want to make a list of possibilities and see what you come up with. Sit down with a blank sheet of paper and just start writing down what pops into your mind. The perfect boat names will show up before you know it.

If you are the superstitious type, you may want to find words that mean good luck or safety when thinking up boat names. You can use a word from a different language if you want to. Though it’s not as permanent as getting a tattoo, you certainly don’t want to name the boat the wrong thing and then have to rename and repaint it all the time. Give yourself a little time to think up great boat names, and then choose the one that fits best with your personality.
