The notion that we learn from the age of five and stop when we are twenty-one seems an old fashioned one now. These days, there is more emphasis on lifelong learning and adult education is more popular than ever. Some people return to college as mature students and some attend night and part time classes. This gives the opportunity to talk to tutors and to share ideas and concerns with fellow students. Socializing with like-minded people can often be a morale-lifting boost to your studies.

You may just want to do something for fun and not to get a qualification or pass an exam. There are many popular adult education courses in painting, yoga, cookery and carpentry. It's an opportunity to do something that you've always wanted to and you get to make new friends. There are classes to give you more confidence in everyday life, such as self-defense and car maintenance. Some of these classes are women only, which some women find a more comfortable environment to learn in.
