Suicide Is Depression At Its Worst

Depression affects many adults, adolescents, and children around the world. While many receive help with their depression, other victims go untreated for most of or the entirety of their lives. Without treatment, depression can lead to many unfortunate consequences. One drastic consequence of depression is suicide—in fact, approximately 15% of those who suffer from clinical depression die by committing suicide. The prevention of suicide calls for the successful identification and treatment of depression.

Troubling Symptoms—Identified And Treated

One way to avoid depression leading to suicide is by identifying and treating the symptoms of depression early on. By doing so, you can ensure that the disorder does not progress to an untreatable state. If you think that you or a loved one is exhibiting symptoms of depression, you should seek help immediately. It may be necessary to perform an intervention and get support from other family members. Do whatever is necessary to get the help that is needed.

Once you suspect that you or someone you love is clinically depressed, it is necessary to have your suspicions confirmed by a doctor. A medical professional will be able to diagnose depression, and they may be able to help you to determine the root cause. Make sure to honestly answer all of their questions—they are only trying to help!

To prevent depression leading to suicide, it is important that depression is treated right away. After the diagnosis, your doctor will be able to help you to formulate a personalized treatment plan that will work best for you. Typically, a treatment plan for depression involves medication, therapy, or a combination of the two.

Don’t Give Up

For many clinically depressed patients, seeking treatment is the last step that enables them to gain control of their depression. However, many others struggle to find the right treatment for them. Some people never find the right treatment. That said, treating depression cannot always prevent suicide, because there are times when the treatment is not successful.

Suicide can be stopped if you simply pay attention to the warning signs. If you know someone who has previously attempted suicide, has recently experienced adverse events in their life, who suffers from a mental illness or who has a family history of mental illness, or who exhibits continual signs of depression regardless of treatment, then it is important to monitor their behavior closely. Your attention could make all the difference!

Saving The Day

Suicide is always devastating, but it feels even worse when you know that it could have been prevented. By helping someone to seek help, or by keeping an eye on their symptoms, you can save someone’s life.
