The Importance Of Customer Service
What’s so important about customer service? Well, if you want your business to not only survive, but also thrive, then the answer is, “everything.” Customer service is an integral component of any business—small, large, home-based, or corporate—that basically allows the business to succeed. Customer service can be defined as simply “serving the customer”—and that’s essentially what it is, serving and satisfying the needs of the customer. While there are certain careers and jobs that are defined as specific “customer service-oriented” jobs, most jobs and businesses involve some level of customer service.
Why is customer service so important? Basically, high-quality customer service attracts customers, potential buyers, and potential clients and will help to develop trust and loyalty with customers.
It’s not a myth that customers are just as interested in the service they receive, as in the product they are interested in buying. While customers will be on the lookout for the best deals, they are also taking the level and quality of service into consideration. Bad impressions stick—but so do good impressions.
Elements of customer service from a customer’s point of view can include the answer they receive from their phone call, the greeting the receive at the door, the help they receive in finding what they’re looking for and in making a decision, and the type of service they receive in fixing a faulty product or in asking for a refund.
The type of customer service you offer in your particular job or in your business will ultimately affect whether you attract customers in the first place, and whether you can keep them coming back for more. It’s more than worth your while to spend some time improving your customer service skills.
