You see this almost everywhere you go, but most of us don’t use them. Most businesses have suggestion boxes somewhere on the premise, though the most common place is by the exit or by the cash register. These are a great way for a company to improve customer service, and are a great way for an unsatisfied customer to leave feedback. Many people often skip the suggestion boxes, however, and instead call the manager or company headquarters. Sometimes people feel that their suggestions won’t be heard, or they simply cannot find the box in the first place.

Perhaps the suggestion boxes should be something you think of every time you visit a store or restaurant. They have them there because they want to hear what you think. If you have a suggestion for better service, or perhaps a product that you really need that they don’t carry, you should know that they really want to hear from you. You may not want to hear criticism, but this is something you should want to do. This helps you better understand what your customers want, and what will make them be regular customers. You can do all the market research you want, but the comments of your real customers will give you a better and more honest feedback than any focus group or research form.

You can make suggestion boxes out of almost anything, and you can also buy boxes made just for that purpose. These should be secure so that what one person puts in cannot be read by someone else. People are more open and honest about matters when they feel that they can be totally anonymous. Make sure your suggestion boxes are solid and locked, and that they are where the customer can get to them easily. Having an already printed form may help them as well, so they can just fill out the paper. You may find what you find in your suggestion boxes some of the most valuable information you can get.
