Like everything else advertised as ‘free’ there’s of course a catch or two to watch out for, however. First of all, when you sign up for a ‘free’ report on Free Credit Report.com, you are automatically registered for a service called Triple Advantage. While the first month of this service is indeed free, if you don’t cancel your membership within 30 days you’ll start getting a $12.95 bill every month on your credit card. This isn’t really a big deal, you just have to make sure you cancel your membership if you don’t want the service.

The other catch is that the basic free report you get from Free Credit Report.com is indeed very basic and not very detailed. Basically, its just your credit score number without any explanation of why it is what it is. If you discover that your credit rating is lower than you thought and want to know exactly why, you have to ‘upgrade’ your membership, which of course costs money. However, if you’re fortunate to find your credit rating is fine, there isn’t much need to pay any money.
