What Causes Attention Deficit Disorder In Children?

There are so many children on medication these days for attention deficit disorder that it boggles the mind. Why are so many children affected by attention deficit disorder and where did this disorder come from? Has it always been around? Or is there something in the food, or environment that is causing these children to be affected by this disorder that disrupts their education and their lives in general? Scientists and doctors still don't know much about attention deficit disorder in children; they just know that many children have it and they are putting kids on medication in record numbers in an attempt to treat it. However, with so many children on medication, the question begs to be answered: are there some children on medication who don't necessarily need to be? And, more importantly, are there some children diagnosed with attention deficit disorder who really don't have anything wrong with them at all? The answer to both questions, sadly, is probably.

Our Kids Are Trying To Tell Us Something

Kids used to go outside and play and run and around and they were just generally more active than today. Not only that but they ate foods that were more nutritious and weren't so laden with sugar and other artificial ingredients. Today, however, our children stay indoors mostly. They go to school, come home and play video games or go on the computer and they lead generally sedentary lives; not all, but most. To top it off, most of these children have horrible diets. They eat fast food and junk foods more than they eat fruits and vegetables. The result can only be wound up kids with constant energy, little focus, and no outlet for all of that energy to go. What we end up with are kids who act out, seem crazed and out of focus and we rush to put them on medication for attention deficit disorder in children. What if there is no disorder? What if all we need to do is teach our kids to eat healthy foods and go outside and play instead of staying indoors all the time? Only a proper experiment would prove one way or the other.

You must listen to your children. Instead of taking them to the doctor, ask them what's wrong. You may be surprised by what they say. They may say they can't focus and that they are in a bad mood, they may feel lethargic from all the sugar causing their systems to crash. Try putting them on a healthy diet, try getting them to exercise and see if anything changes. Medication has helped many children with attention deficit disorder but is it really helping or is it just masking the symptoms? We need to do all we can for our children to make sure we are treating them with the care and attention they need. They truly are our future. Medication, it's feared, is a crutch, an easy out for parents who don't want to properly rear their children. Listen to them, find out if your kids truly have attention deficit disorder. You may find that all they need is a return to a healthy lifestyle and all will be well once more.
