Air Travel With Children Made Easy
The best possible advice for taking your children on an airplane is not to do it and leave them at home. If you must take them, and they are under the age of two, you may hold them on your lap. The Federal Aviation Administration has been lobbying for years to change this rule but has been unsuccessful. It is highly recommended that your children should fly in their car seat, not on your lap. Air Travel With Children – Turbulence
If you have done a lot of traveling on airplanes, you must have experienced seeing a child that was sitting on their parent's lap during turbulence. The parent has a seat belt on and the child does not. In heavy turbulence, the child's head could hit the headliner of the cabin. Although this practice can be very dangerous, many parents attempt to justify it by claiming if they had to pay for another ticket they would not be able to take the trip.
Air Travel With Children – New Child Safety Device
The AmSafe Aviation CARES is the name of a new child safety device for securing the child to the seat. Unlike hard-backed child safety seats that are approved for use in airplanes and motor vehicles, CARES is designed and tested specifically for safe use in airplanes.
CARES uses an additional belt and shoulder harness that goes around the seat back and attaches to the passenger lap belt to provide restraint for the upper part of the body. It is designed for children weighing between 22 and 44 pounds. Do not use this device in an automobile since it is not approved.
Air Travel With Children – Tips From A Flight Attendant
Two great items to take with you onboard an airplane to entertain your child with are a coloring book with crayons and a DVD player. If you keep them entertained, they will be less likely to cry and make a fuss.
Air Travel With Children – Bathroom Use
It is a great idea for you and your child to use the bathroom right before you board the plane. Obviously the bathrooms in the airport are much larger than those on the airplane and no waiting time is necessary.
Air Travel With Children – Food
You should bring water, juice and snacks along for your children. Often times, airlines run out of snacks and there is nothing worse than a hungry child.
