Finding Hotel Jobs
If you are interested in working at a hotel, then you should know that there are tons of different jobs you can choose from. You will want to learn about these different hotel jobs before making your decision, so that you can go with the one best suited for you. Your Options
When it comes to hotel jobs, the options are almost endless. One of the most popular hotel jobs is as a receptionist, and most hotels are almost always looking for someone to fill this position, even at least part-time.
For this job, good interpersonal skills are critical, a high school diploma or equivalent is usually always required, and organization skills are key factors here as well. Receptionists are charged with a responsibility that may have a lasting impact on the success of an organization.
This is because they are often the first representatives of an organization that the guests encounter, and so it is they who make the first impression. Receptionists complete various tasks, such as answering telephones, routing and screening calls, greeting visitors, responding to inquiries from the public, and providing information about the organization itself.
The specific duties of the receptionist will vary, depending on the particular hotel establishment, but most of the basics tend to remain the same. Increasingly in today’s day and age, receptionists are using multiline telephone systems, personal computers and fax machines, and despite the widespread use of automated answering systems many receptionists still take messages and inform other employees of visitors’ arrivals and cancellations of appointments.
Another of the most popular hotel jobs involves maintenance, and this includes housekeeping staff to technical maintenance. For housekeeping you generally do not require any education or experience although it is obviously still helpful if you do, and for technical maintenance jobs you will usually need a high school diploma or equivalent and at least a few years of experience on the job.
Applying
Regardless of which particular hotel jobs you are interested in, you are going to want to make the best impression you can when you go to apply for them. This means having a professional looking resume and cover letter ready to show the employer, as well as being prepared mentally for the interview.
Remember to be outgoing and personable, but polite and candid at the same time. You want to show off your personality but stay professional at the same time, and always make sure to listen to what they are telling you and ask any questions that you may have.
