Have you ever met a person that is not opened to listening to anything that anyone else has to say? The kind of person that everyone calls a know it all. I work with such an individual and dealing with him can be a great challenge. No matter what you are talking about he knows more about the subject than you do. It does not pay to argue with this type of person; mainly I just ignore him as much as possible so that I do not have to listen to his speech about different topics.
Last year my husband and I decided that we were going to start a business. We became dealers for an environmental products company. We live in a small house without a great deal of storage so we decided to rent a space to run the business out of. I was talking about this at work and said that we were going to contact a commercial real estate agent to see if there was some rental property that we could lease. My co-worker immediately cut in and said that we did not need to go through a commercial real estate person because we were involved in a home based business so the property that we used for our supplies did not have to be zoned commercial. I tried to tell him that we just wanted to insure that we were doing everything above board considering we were so new to business. It became adamant about how stupid this was to involve ourselves with a commercial real estate agent. I did not know why he was getting so bent out of shape considering it had nothing to do with him. I just dropped the topic and would not answer any further questions he had about our business. Once we contacted the real estate agency we were happy that we did. We live in a resort and lakes area so the zoning laws are quite strict regarding what is residential and what is commercial. We are not anticipating a great deal of traffic as a result of our business because the products we sell are meant to be presented in a person’s home. We explained to the realtor that we were most interested in a space that could be used for storage and then if the business grew we may open a store front for some of the consumable products that are included in the merchandise we handle. We ended up renting a portion of the building that the realty office was in. They did not utilize the storage space. This was a great set up for us because there were always a number of agents around so we knew our products would be safe, also realtors are one of the client groups we wanted to target with our products. So far our business is going well. I am hoping that before long I will be able to quit my job and do the business full time. I will not miss Mr. know it all in the office when I quit.
