Tips for Successful Bodybuilding for Women


While men seem to get the majority of the publicity and attention when it comes to bodybuilding, there are many women bodybuilders in competitions as well. If you are looking into beginning a bodybuilding program, there are a few things that you need to know if you are going to be successful in your efforts of bodybuilding for women. First, men and women build muscle and burn fat in very different ways. What works for your husband or boyfriend is probably not going to work as effectively for you. Second, building muscle mass is not as natural of a process for women as it is for men. This is good news for women who want to indulge in strength training without the worry of bulging biceps, but not so great if those biceps are what you are after. There are a few tips in bodybuilding for women that will help you to achieve the mass and tone that you are looking for.

Getting with the Program

Because every woman is different, every bodybuilding program for women needs to be unique and customized to the individual. This means that if you are starting out in your program, it is best to find a professional coach or personal trainer that can help you to tailor an exercise program to your individual needs and goals. This will vary based on your size and body type as well as your reason for beginning bodybuilding for women. Most of the programs will include weight workouts every other day, since it is important to take a day off in between to rest your muscles. It is also a good idea to get your doctor’s okay before you begin any type of intense training program, to ensure that you do so safely.

Diet and Supplements

Weight training is only part of the equation in bodybuilding for women. The other side of the coin includes diet and possible supplements that will help to increase the effectiveness of the workouts. The best person to help you with your diet choices will be either your coach or a dietician that is trained to work with female bodybuilders. You will probably want to adhere to a menu that is high in complex carbohydrates and proteins and low in fat and refined foods. It is also a good idea when bodybuilding for women to eat numerous small meals every day, rather than three large ones.

Even though you may stick with a strict diet that will offer all of the nutrition that you need for bodybuilding for women, you may also want to add supplementation to your diet in the form of bodybuilding products. These products might be shakes or powders that you can mix in with water or juice, and are loaded with protein and nutrients that will help you to make the most of your weight training sessions. Some bodybuilders find that these supplements are so convenient and easy to use that they will use them in place of regular meals on occasion. Supplements can make a difference in helping you to achieve your bodybuilding goals.
