First time drivers are given a great deal of direction. They get encouragement, advice, and hopefully, practice. New drivers are taught the rules of the road, what to expect while driving, common courtesy and all sorts of responsibilities that come with this new privilege. The only thing that they won’t be taught is what to do if they get themselves into trouble out there on the road.

When you get your first citation for a traffic violation, do not lose it. It is not the end of the world. There are ways to handle it and keep it a secret from our parents if you need to. Just stay calm and remember that you have options.

As a teen I had my fair share of traffic violations and not a single one ended up on my record. Let me tell you how you do that. Surprisingly perhaps, it is not difficult at all. It just may cost you a few more bucks than you’d like but it is worth it.

If you get a traffic violation and you are of age, simply go to court on the day that the citation lists and plead it down to a non-moving violation. You will have to pay double the citation cost but the violation will not go on your record.

If you get a traffic violation and you are not of age you will need to hire an attorney. These cases are no big deal and you should be able to find someone to handle it for you for a few hundred dollars. I know it sounds like a big chunk of change but again, it is well worth it. Just compare the money to how many weeks you may be grounded from your car and that should put it into perspective.

Getting in traffic trouble does not mean the end of the world or your driving privileges. If you are educated about your options when it comes to how to deal with this situation, you will be fine. Just don’t go out there and try to rack up the citations just because you know a way to get out of them. That is just stupid.
