Direct Flight
The first time I got on an airplane, I was hoping to get a direct flight. I was very nervous about flying, and there was a reason I waited until I was in my thirties to get on an airplane. Though I know my fears were unreasonable, that didn’t make me any more eager to get on one and fly off into the sunset. There was an event going on that I just couldn’t pass up, and I could only get there if I got on a plane. I thought perhaps a direct flight would make my first time flight a lot easier on me, but that was not to be. You will have a better time getting a direct flight if you live in a large urban area and you are going to another large city. This was not the case for me, and the only way I can get a direct flight is if I visit a city within a few states. Anything further away is going to be a connecting flight. My airport is very small, so they can only handle so much traffic. When I found out I was not getting a direct flight, I have to admit that I did panic a little. I knew nothing about air travel, and I really didn’t know anything about switching flights.
If you don’t get a direct flight, you might want to make sure you let someone know that this is your first time flying and that you don’t know what you are doing. That may signal to them to give you a little more direction when you get off your first connecting flight. This is what I did, and I found that people were very eager to help me along my way. A direct flight might have been ideal, but I wanted to get to where I was going, so I knew I had to do it. Everyone was kind and helpful, and there were no problems whatsoever.
If you insist on a direct flight, and one is available from your airport, you may have to pay more, especially if you book late. However, no matter how much you are willing to pay, you won’t get a direct flight if there are no seats available. It’s always a good idea to book early and make sure you indicate that you want a direct flight. You can save money by taking connecting flights in some cases, but it will depend on where you are going and what time frame you have to work with.
