I have been driving my 1990 Dodge Dakota for 16 years now, and I have to say that I have never owned a car which has served me better. I have not been easy on my pickup truck. I am not one of those guys who buys a 1990 Dodge Dakota just to be macho and show off. I am a contractor, and my 1990 Dodge Dakota has gone through 16 years of hard work right with me. At least five days a week, and sometimes more, I have to haul building supplies to a site. Lumber, heavy machinery, tools, paints, and anything else that you can imagine all get thrown into the back of the 1990 Dodge Dakota, and I take off for the building site. On top of that, I often have to attach a trailer to haul extra supplies, which is not so easy on the engine. But, up and down hills, and over straightaways, it has done a good job, and it will be a shame to let it go.
The fact is, though, after enough years it gets more expensive to maintain a car than to just get a new one. Oh, I am sure that my 1990 Dodge Dakota has a few more years in her, or I could not sell it in good conscious, but even still, it is just not up for the abuse anymore. I can feel the engine struggling up the hills, and sometimes it even stalls now. And if you have ever stalled with a cab and a trailer filled with equipment, you will know just how scary that can be. If you have not, you can't possibly imagine it. I guess it is good to know that the 1990 Dodge Dakota will have a few good years helping someone else out in there life. It will probably end up in the hands of some college kid, who will use it for light hauling of his gear to and from school, a task which I am sure that the 1990 Dodge Dakota will perform admirably. When I was in college, I borrowed my moms minivan to move back and forth to school, and I can not imagine what I would have done without something to haul things in. I hope whoever gets the pickup next gets near as much pleasure and use out of it as I did. I would hate to see it go to waste.
