Fortune Teller
I am very interested in ways of predicting the future. My mother told fortunes from playing cards and I have read extensively about astrology. Crystal balls, tea leaves and premonitions have always fascinated me. When I went to a local fairground, there was a tent with a notice saying that the greatest fortune teller to have walked the earth was inside. I just went in for a bit of fun, expecting nothing more than some theatrical nonsense. The lady fortune teller was dolled up like a Gypsy, though I doubt she was from genuine Gypsy stock. She was jangling with all the gold bracelets, rings and necklaces she had on, and she wore a multi-colored headscarf.
The experience turned out to be a profound one. Everything she predicted subsequently came true. These were not the usual vague, sweeping statements that you might expect from a fortune teller. There was no mention of traveling to other lands, having life changing experiences or meeting dark, handsome strangers.
Without asking me any questions, she told me where I was emotionally at the time and what would happen in the future. The fortune teller focused on my love life, such as it was, and that had been my own obsession for some weeks. She told me that I was pining for a guy that had just broken up with me. I was! Then, the fortune teller told me that I would not get back with him, which was what I'd been hoping for. Sob!
The predictions followed, and this was when it got incredibly specific. The fortune teller said that it was ok that this guy and I didn't reconcile because I would meet someone else with whom I'd be a lot happier. This person would be my soul mate and we would be together for keeps. We would have children, we would live near the sea and we would drive a van.
I came out of the tent, thinking that she had great insight into my present emotional situation but I thought the fortune teller bit was a lot of rubbish. I completely dismissed it from my mind. The old boyfriend went back to his previous girlfriend and I never saw him again. Five years later, I was married, had two children, drove a van and was living near the sea. The memory of the visit to the fortune teller came back to me one day. I was flabbergasted. Each of her predictions had come true and in such a specific way. Don't ask me how, but she had seen everything in her crystal ball.
