I worked with a maid service while in college, and we had a bag vacuum that worked very well, and we could change the bag outside, so it was never an issue. It also did very well, and very little dirt escaped. However, as good as they were, there were some customers who insisted that we use their machine, and most of the time it would be a bagless vacuum cleaner they were asking us to use in their home. I learned very quickly that the concept of the bagless vacuum is wonderful, but in practice, it is actually worse than the bagged type.

One used water to collect the dust, dirt and pet hair. This was not easy to use, and if you pulled it the wrong way it would tip over and there would be water everywhere. There were many times when this bagless vacuum almost went down the stairs. When it came time to clean it out, I always wanted to throw up. The dirt and the pet hair made a nasty smelling paste like substance, and it smelled as horrible as it looked. I hated going to that house right after lunch.

Other types of bagless vacuum do not use water, but they make more of a mess than the bags do when you try to clean them out. This is the messy part, but they advertise that they don’t use a bag as if that is a good thing. From my own experience, I’ll take the kind with the bag any day of the week. It might cost a little more to buy the bags, but they are far cleaner and far easier to handle. The bagless vacuum almost seemed to find a way to spew the dirt everywhere when cleaning was attempted. No thanks. I’d rather spend the money to be sure I’m not going to have to vacuum all over again.
