Teen Aerobics are a Young Person's Game


There is much in the news these days about obesity in teenagers. This should come as a surprise to no one as the diet that most teenagers are exposed to are generally awful. Fast food, sugary drinks and snacks combined with a inactive lifestyle can lead to a number of problems. Of course, a cleaner diet and a more active exercise program could do wonders for reversing this problem.

Probably one of the most beneficial exercise programs that could be undertaken is that of teen aerobics. Often when we think of aerobics we automatically think of an activity for an older audience. This is inaccurate as aerobics can be performed by a younger crowd too. In fact, depending upon the age of the teen these could be more beneficial exercises than most people are aware of.

The Weightlifting Quandary

There is some controversy when it comes to teen weightlifting. In his classic book, The Incredible Lou Ferigno, the legendary bodybuilder mentioned that it may be somewhat dangerous for someone who is not fully grown to perform heavy weightlifting. He suggests body weight exercises instead. While these exercises can do a great deal for enhancing muscular endurance they may not perform a good job of burning fat. This is where teen aerobics come in handy as they can rapidly burn off fat without causing any problems similar to the problems that premature bodybuilding workouts can cause.

The Other Benefits

It is never easy for a teenager who is overweight. This is unfortunate but the image of overweight teens is constantly re-enforced in various media images as buffoonish. Since such opinions are never going to change (they have been that way for many, many years) it becomes important for the teen to take the necessary steps to get in shape and shed off the excess weight. This is where teen aerobics can come in handy as only a half hour of such conditioning can provide significant results in a relatively short period of time provided one is consistent and performs with a decent level of intensity.

As such, the benefits of teen aerobics are significant so it would be wise to perform them is fitness, health and self confidence are your goals. Plus, there is no reason to stop when the teen years end as teen aerobics can remains very helpful all throughout one's life. Clearly, aerobics have much to offer so why not take advantage of these great benefits are starting right away?
