People have tried and tried these over the counter acne medications, creams, and washes for years and years. For a lot of people, acne antibiotics are the miracle that they have been waiting for and find that this is what they should have been waiting for. These acne antibiotics are something that not a lot of people know about but it does make a lot of sense. The fact behind acne is that acne is the symptom of follicles becoming obstructed which causes infection with bacteria. So what the acne antibiotics do is they decrease the amount of bacteria that is found around the follicle and in the follicle. Also, acne antibiotics help to reduce chemicals that are irritating in nature.

Different Types

There are several different types of acne antibiotics that can be prescribed for problems with acne. But out of all of the different acne antibiotics that are passed out on a daily basis, the one that is the most commonly used is that of Tetracycline. Usually it is only a does of 500mg that is taken twice each day. This dosage would continue until the patient sees a decrease in acne and then the dosage would be decreased to about half. Another type that is used when acne antibiotics are concerned is that of Erythromycin which is known to be slightly better then Tetracycline since it can be used in women who are pregnant.

For those who suffer a great deal with pustular acne, he above acne antibiotics are not generally used, as they would not be the most effective for this type. Instead, doctors and skin care specialists will prescribe Minocycline. There are side effects that come along with this type of medicine, as with any of the acne antibiotics, but these are generally seen in people who have been taking the drug for a long period of time. For those who cannot deal with the other medicines, Doxycycline is used and the dosage is pretty small, even when first starting. There is also Clindamycin, which is in the same category as the other acne antibiotics but is generally used for topical usage.
